THE GOVERNOR'S LEVEE.
His Excellency the Governor held an undress levee in the Odd Fellows' Hall, on Thursday last, this being the first Governor's levee ever held in Nelson. In consequence of the unfavourable state of the weather, the attendance was not so numerous as it otherwise would have been, as the heavy rain which fell in the morning prevented the attendance of many persons from the country. His Excellency was attended by his Honor the Superintendent, Major Richmond, D. Sinclair, Esq., Speaker of the Provincial Council, the Provincial Solicitor, and the Provincial Secretary, and some other gentlemen. The following are the names of those who were presented: — Dr. Renwick, M.P.C., J. D. Greenwood, Esq., A. M'Donald, Esq., Manager of the Union Bank of Australia; Mr. T. Brunner, Chief Government Surveyor; Mr. A. Fell, Mr. C. Elliott, M.H.R., M.P.C., D. Monro, Esq., M.P.C., Rev. H. F. Butt, Mr. H. E. Curtis, W. T. L. Travers, Esq., M.H.R., C. Thorp, Esq., Rev. T. D. Nicholson, Mr. C. Goulter, E. D. Salisbury, Esq., Mr. G. Ridings, Mr. John Sharpe, Deputy-Registrar Supreme Court; J. Mackay, Esq., Mr. A. Greenfield, B. Walmsley, Esq., Sheriff; Rev. J. C. Bagshaw, Mr. John Ward, M.P.C., Mr. A. Dobson, Commissioner of Public Works. The following Maories were also presented :— - Wiremu Punga, Wiremu Katene, Riwai Ngapaki, Pitama, Kamiora, Tepene, Eruera Tare, Eruera Tatana, Wiremu Takana, Matiu Hurewhare, Te Rei Tipiora, Taimona Te Pahu, Te Aopouri, Wikitoa.
