GARDENERS' CALENDAR.
September. — Sow peas and beans ; plant out cauliflowers and cabbage, also, turnips, carrots, spinach, &c. Sow all kinds of annuals, both where it is intended that they are to remain to flower, and also in beds in the reserve gardens, to be afterwards transplanted into the flower borders. Plant potatoes early this month — the native kidney is suitable for early crop ; also, some of our London kidney and American early. Latter end of this month sow full crops of onions; also carrots and turnips. Where onions are sown thickly, transplanting will be necessary, and much improve them. In transplanting onions, make with a dibble a hole large enough, to admit of the fibres, and press tbe earth very lightly. Sow celery ; also for succession sow the latter end of this month.
Grafting may be performed, if required, towards the latter end of the month ; all shoots which rise below the graft must be taken off as they are produced. — New Zealand Gazette.
