SIR — In your last week's paper I was much pleased to find that an advertisement, which I had previously inserted, had taken its desired effect, not only in arousing " the suspicions of the public," but also in calling forth the " indignation " of those who would rather that their customers were not so auspicious. With respect to the absence of " a proof," permit me to say that it was far beneath my object to descend to personalities ; but if Mr. Ross wishes it, and has no objection "to see his name in print," for such a purpose, a " proof" shall not long be wanting. There are two or three circumstances connected with the fact, which so " fully proved " Mr. Ross's innocence, which ought not to be concealed. First, it was not a loaf that was sold, or had ever been offered for sale by me, but one which I had set aside from the batch for my "own mtn " to take home with him. In the next place, it was a cottage, weighed against a«e* loaf; a circumstance that would make at lent i lb.; difference in a four- pound loaf. Farther than this, my "own man " had commenced his supper /rom it, and when Mr. Ross took the loaf from him, be taid he would makt an allowance far what he had eaten! But lastly, and above all (as Mr. Ross states), all this happened "since " this unfortunate advertisement appeared, '* since" the " public suspicions" have been aroused, and "tino*," Mr. Ross has. made what alterations he considered advisable in the weight of his bread. I am sir, yours xttpecttalft Haig» Road, Feb. V. ' iAlfbbd Savmmm.
