JMLELSON LITERARY and SCIEN-J-L~\TIFIC INSTITUTION.— The attention of the public is directed to the following regulations respecting the admission of members : — " The society is open to all persons above the age of 15. It is particularly recommended that all parties keeping current accounts with the Bank, should not draw cheques for sums under jBS, except for special purposes. ■TC^ILSON LAND ASSOCIATION.— ■i-^l The object of this Association is to increase the prosperity of the artisans, mechanics, and n orking classes of this colony by enabling them to possess town and country land, which, secured at this early period of the existence of this settlement, cannot fail to be attended with certain rapid and great increase in value at no distant date. The present system of colonization, though very comprehensive, is not sufficiently so to secure for the industrious classes at an early period an interest in, and thereby an attachment to, the prosperity of this colony. This Association purposes, by a combination of acquired capital, to purchase land for the benefit of its members. At a public meeting held at Mr. Cockbum's, Commercial Inn, on Tuesday evening last, the 33d instant, the following Rules and Regulations for the governance of the Association were agreed to, and the following gentlemen were appointed a committee > — Mr. King I Mr. Brown Mr#J. Williams I Mr. Moore Mr*. Leighton | Mr. White Mr. Cockbura { Mr. Ludley Mr. Bright I I. That nine members of the above Association compose the committee. 9. That three members of the committee be chosen to act as trustees on behalf of the Association; and every three months, three go out and three be chosen out of the general body; and that a general meeting be called for that purpose. 3. That a trust deed be prepared, empowering the trusteea to buy, transfer, and conduct the general business of the Association ; but with the approbation, in every case, of the committee for the time being. And that in cases of re-sale, a general meeting be called. 4. That at any election of trustees or others, no member be entitled to more than one vote. 5. That town and suburban land be purchased with the funds. ~ ' 6. That each allotment or acre be subdivided into eight parts or shares. 7. That the first instalment of five shillings per week net share from each member of the Association, begin and oecome payable to the committee from Tuesday the *Qth August. 8. That members are not entitled to become candidates for the ballot until they have paid four instalments, and are dear of th* book*. g. That every member who is so fortunate a* to obtain a choice, is to stand to his number as drawn. In case of the absence of any member, the trustees to have the power of drawing. . ijHfl 10. That a proper title or titles be given by the trustees, but at the expense of the party or parties obtaining then choice. IS. That interest at the rate of as per cent^ be chargeable upon the whole of bis purchase-money to any nwnphfr who shall make default in payment of any or either of his instalments within one month, except in case of illness, want of employment, or distress ; or any member wishing to leave the colony may withdraw hit money by baying 85 per cent. 14. That any person wishing to transfer must give a week's previous notice to the committee in writing of such bis intention to transfer ; and the name of such person or persons to whom such traaisfer is to be made, for their approval. 15. That the title-deeds be retained until the whole of the purchase-money be paid up, together with incidental "fpuniftt, when each are to be handed over to their respective owners ; and that all deeds and money be deposited in the bank. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr. J. Williams for his kind and generous assistance as chairman. N.B.
