FIGHTING IN MADAGASCAR
ENEMY OBLIGED TO RETREAT, SAYS VICHY London, Oct. 20. A Vichy communique states: "The British attack on 19th October against positions in the Ambositra sector in Madagascar was preceded by a systematic bombardment in which a thousand shells were dropped on our improvised trenches. Our troops, although hard pressed from every side, obliged the enemy to retreat.” —P.A.
