ENEMY ATTACKS FAIL

DEFENDERS OF MALTA TOO CLEVER London, Oct. 20. The continued failure of enemy air attacks on Malta is described by the R.A.F. Middle East News Service. After a series of tip-and-run raids by Me 109’s yesterday, the Luftwaffe attempted to outwit the defenders by sending over three bomber formations at dusk, one from the west, one from the east and the other from the north. Though outnumbered by ten to one British day fighters first drove off the western force, then the eastern, while night-fighters intercepted the raiders from the north. Less than a tenth of

the enemy bombers managed to cross the coast. Two were destroyed.—P.A.
