“CONFIDENCE TRICKSTER”

ALLEGED EMPLOYMENT BY SECURITY DEPARTMENT QUESTION ASKED IN HOUSE fFrorn Our Own Parliamentary Reporter! Wellington, Oct. 20. Attention to an article which appeared in a weekly journal recently was drawn by Mr J. A. Lee (Democratic Labour, Grey Lynn) in a notice of question to the Prime Minister in the House of Representatives yesterday. Mr Lee said that the article alleged that a confidence trickster from Mt. Eden was authorised by the National Security Department to stay in Rotorua, spend public money, and build up files against innocent people. He asked whether this was correct, and, if so, whether the person mentioned would be brought to trial and whether the Prime Minister would state how National Security was controlled, and also whether the estimates of expenditure would be presented to Parliament.
