The patent medicine business had degenerated into a “proper racket.” in which profits exceeding 1000 per cent, were sometimes: made and the time was overdue tor the Medical Advertisements Bill, said the Leader of the Legislative Council (Mr Wilson) in explaining the Bill, which was passed without amendment by the Legislative Council. “Patent medicines generally consist of a lew simple ingredients and a lot of faith on the part of the taker.” said Mr Wilson. The Hen A. Ilanan <Otago ». the Hon. V. A Ward (Wellington), and the Hon. W. Grounds (Auckland), spoke in favour of the Bill, and Mr Ward said that the Council could take considerable credit for its introduction, as it had some time ago unanimously recommended the Government to consider such a Bill,
