Six meetings have been held during the year, the following being the speakers and subjects: 1941 28th October, short addresses by Professor .1 S. Tennant on "Sunshine." Dr M. Mayer on "New Zealand-made Agar.’ Mr E S. Gourlay on “Maori Artifacts.’ Mr W. C. Davies on “New Exhibits in the Cawlhron Museum." Dr. I) Miller on “Some Peruvian Artifacts " and Mr .1 Glasgow on “Burmese Exhibits." In 1942: 18th May Mr K G Gibbs presidential address) "The Earth’s Ice Ages"; 22nd tune. Mr Wm C Davies, three short iddresses dealing with the following subjects. “Recent Cawthorn Museum Accessions " "The Work of Dr. A. L. Barker. Pioneer Photographer and Historian of the Canterbury Settlement." "Some New Photographic Materials and Processes"; 20th July. Sir Walter Scott "The Hill Tribes of Assam": 17th August, Mr R Thomson "A recent visit to the United States and Canada, with special reference to the methods of Tobc eco Culture in those countries"; 21st September. Mrs M. M. Moncrietl. • The story of Vegetable Dyes.” All th'se addresses were copiously illus trated by lantern slides and specimens. It, is pleasing to note that notwithstanding war conditions, interest in the society has been maintained to a marked degree the average attendance of members and visitors being 45. It is with deep regret that the committee reports the retirement of Mr O. B. Pemberton, who has held the position of honorary secretary to the society for the past 13 years and is now leaving Nelson. The committee wishes to place on record its appreciation of Mr Pemberton’s long and efficient services, and trusts that he may enjoy many years of well-earned rest.' The adoption ol the report and balance sheet was carried on the motion of the* president. Mr F. G Gibbs Sir Theodore Rigg. in seconding the motion, cogratulated the president and committee on the very successful year's work. ELECTION OF OFFICERS The following officers were then reelected for the coming year: President, Mr F. G. Gibbs; vice-president, Dr. H. O Askew; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr Wm. C. Davies; lion auditor. Sir Theodore Rigg; committee. Mrs M. MMoncrieff. Miss E B Kidson, Sir Thomas Easterfield, Dr. D. Miller. Mr J Glasgow, and Mr J. G. McKay. ADDRESS BY MR T. A. GLEN DINNING The chairman then introduced the sneaker lor th? evening, Mr T. A. Glendinning. M.Sc.. F.1.C.. who gave an exceedingly interesting and well-planned address * illustrated by lantern slides, on "Germination and its Application to Arts and Industries.” which was received with marked attention and appreciation by the audience
