COMMUNITY SING

FINAL OF SERIES £l5O RAISED LAST NIGHT Last night the final community sing in the series of six arranged in aid oi the Prisoners of War Parcels: Fund, was held in the Majestic Theatre, which was packed to capacity for the occasion The programme was the combined effort of all the sponsors of the previous sings and the evening resulted in a further £l5O being added to the funds A telegram from the Mayor (Mr E R. Neale) was read before the commencement of the programme. Mr Neale apologised for his absence from Nelsor which had prevented his being presen 1 and congratulated the community sins committee on the splendid results ol their effort. As each person entered the theatre he was handed an envelope and invitee to place inside it any contribution which he wished to make to the funds When the envelopes were collected later £53 was received from this ap peal. The song-leader for the evening wa: Mr H. C. Fletcher, who was assistec by Mr Clarrie Lee and his orchestra. At intervals in the community sing ing items were given, one very popu lar one being “Soldiers of the King' which was sung by Miss Olga Puklow ski and danced by a ballet trained b;> Miss Elizabeth Henderson. A tap dancing trio. Misses S. Lock and J. Tunni cliffe, and Master Peter Bennett wa; also much enjoyed by the audience Other items were given by Miss Russ Mr R. Towns. Master Raymond Smith and Miss Beth Wilkinson. The chairman of the Nelson Cit) Patriotic Committee (Mr A. H. Crawley ). when announcing the proceed; of the evening’s sing, thanked the public for the generous manner in whict they had supported the community sings during the whole series. Mi Crawley then introduced the commit tee who were responsible for running the sings, and thanked them on behal; of the Patriotic Committee lor the won derful work which they had done.
