SWEEPING SOC lAL REFORMS London, Sept. 24 Following the most extensive social survey in the history of Britain, the committee appointed under Sir William Beveridge, the economist, last year, is, says the “Daily Mail,” drafting revolutionary proposals for submission to the Government. These include the creation of a Ministry of Social Security, which will spend £500.000,000 a year. This money will be used for the following purposes : 1. Providing pay for everybody, even if unable to work, through illness, accident. disease or lack of opportunity. 2. Providing specialist and hospital I treatment for all whenever needed, and scrapping of the present panel system, State medical services to operate from health centres throughout Britain, where doctors wi 1 1 have their own consulting rooms This plan lias already been approved by the B.M.A 3. Providing sweeping changes in all forms of social insuraiice j The proposed Ministry of Social | Security would deal with all matters i affecting unemployment, national health ; insurance, public assistance, widows’ I and old-age pensions, workmen's comi pensation, and allied subjects.
