RICHMOND PATRIOTIC COMMITTEE

FINAL MEETING OF YEAR At the last meeting of the Richmond Patriotic Committee, the final meeting of the financial year, reports were presented showing that for the twelve months ended 30th September, the committee had paid into the Provincial Patriotic Fund a total of £1571 5s 4d. In addition an amount of £ls 7s lOd, raised by the Girl Guides recently, was still to be credited, this money having been passed through the Nelson authorities. Commenting on the statement, the chairman (Mr A. R. Tuffnell) said it reflected great credit on all concerned,

1 both those who had worked so hard to achieve this result and those who had contributed so liberally. The greater part, he said, had been raised by direct contribution but various functions held throughout the year had proved very successful and credit was due largely to the committees responsible for organising these. The chairman also complimented the committee on the splendid attendances Jat monthly meetings. Almost every month the full membership had been I accounted for. Opportunity was taken at this stage to welcome Mr Owen Adams who had consented to the committee's request to act as secretary in place of Miss G. Hill who recently had joined the Army services. It was pointed out by the chairman that although the committee had not held office for a full year, this was the last meeting in the past financial year and he suggested that it might be better for a new committee to take over at the commencement of a new period in patriotic activities. This met with general approval and it was resolved that a public meeting be held on Tuesday, 27th October, at which patriotic matters could be discussed and a new committee appointed. Members of the Nelson Provincial Patriotic executive are to be invited to attend on this occasion. A vote of thanks was accorded the chairman for the able manner in which he had carried out his duties, also to Messrs W. J. Mclntosh. O. Woods and Mrs Delany for their assistance to th« dance committee.
