LORRY CONVOY ATTACKED

FIGHTING FRENCH PLANES ACTIVITY IN CENTRAL AFRICA London, Oct. 17. The Fighting French announce: “Fighting French planes from Central African bases attacked a lorry # convoy travelling across Sezzan, which is a district in southern Libya, 200 miles north of Chad.” A Vichy Admiralty communique says an air battle occurred over French West Africa in which a French naval pilot, Captain d’Ailliere, of the Dakar air base, was killed. Unconfirmed reports say he was shot down on a reconnaissance flight over the West ; African coast, to the south of Dakar in the direction of Freetown.—P.A.
