NELSON BOARD’S MEETING TAPAWERA D.H.S. The monthly meeting of the Nelson Education Board held to-day was attended bv the Hon. W. H. Mclntyre (chairman), Messrs J. H. Harkness, F. A. Hamilton, F. A. Carling, H. Baritrop, A. Robinson, J. G. Wilkens and F. H. Newman. The secretary (Mr 11. J. Thornton) reported that the contractor, Mr W. Bastin, was proceeding with the work of removing, enlarging and reerecting the old Tapawera School building for use as a manual training building. The Tapawera Committee’s proposals regarding the payment of its share of the cost of the dental clinic were accepted. Mr J. E. Oldham wrote expressing appreciation of the boar'd’s action in including Tui in the Tapawera consolidation scheme. The architect submitted a plan for a modified dental clinic at Tasman and it will be submitted to the committee. REFAIRS AND GROUND IMPROVEMENTS It was decided to grant £3O towards the asphalting work at the Hampden Street School. The Sergeant’s Hill committee was granted £2O towards the cost of concrete curbing. The Westport South committee was granted £3O to assist in its ground improvement scheme. TRAINING COLLEGE STUDENTS The secretary reported that the Nelson district’s quota of Training College students for admission in 1943 was 32. There were 46 applicants who would be interviewed by the Selection Committee next month.
