U.S. MANPOWER
SHORTAGE OF DOCTORS (Rec. 1.25 p.m.) Washington, Oct. 16. The pipe and slippers attitude of peacetime must give way to the cold steel and hot fury of total war, Mr Paul McNutt, chairman of the War Manpower Commission told the American Hospital Association War Conference. He added: “The day will soon come when every American will be doing war work. He can do best where his country needs him most.” Turning to medical problems he said that a survey of 400 critical industrial and military mobilisation areas showed that the shortage of doctors and hospital facilities had reached alarming proportions.—P.A.
