ALLOWANCES FOR SOLDIERS’ CHILDREN [From Our Own Parliamentary Reporter] Wellington, This Day. The War Cabinet’s decision to pay ’ children’s allowances in respect of ail dependant children under 1(5 years of age of soldiers, was announced m the ' House by the Defence Minister, Mr ; Jones. He was replying to an urgent ; question by Mr W. Sullivan (National, Bay of Plenty). Mi Sullivan pointed out that under the present system, children’s allowances ! were restricted to five children, the effect of which was that a mother of 10 children was asked to manage on the 1 same amount as a mother of five. Should not the responsibility of large families : be recognised, he asked. The Minister said that the necessary amendment of the Pay and Allowances Emergency Regulations to give effect to the War Cabinet’s decision had beer prepared, and would come into operation on Ist November.
