REMOVED BY SURGEON I TENSE MOMENTS AT HOSPITAL London, Oct. 15. V live Messerschmitt cannon j shell, five inches long and weighing j 21 bs which was embedded in the j thigh of a naval officer, has been ; removed by a surgeon at a Brighton air raid casualty hospital. Tlie officer is now progressing favourably An X-ray photograph revealed the shell and the doctor decided to operate, despite the possibility of the shell exploding in the process. An anaethetist and nurses stood by as the doctor probed around Hie base of the shell. The danger was Heightened by | the fact that the shell’s position necessitated tlie yse of considerable ! force to extract it. After removal the shell was handed over to a ' bomb disposal unit.
