"THE TWO STRIKES”
•To ?he Fritter* Sir.—ln his letter “The Two Strikes." I endorse all that “H.F." said in the first sentence. Looking back over the various phases of the mining strike I gather that over 1000 men were involved and were determined not to go back to work until certain matters were readjusted It certainly gave me the impression that failing' the desired readjustment. the Government would have had. in time, to make special provisions so that these strikers could serve theii* sentences. I should be very grateful if "H.F." would discuss in your columns an alternative step to that which was taken by the Government. Then. too. he only mentioned one of the "strikes.’' I would also like his version of the other one. Mr Downic Stewart suggested that certain Ministers should have resigned, but I did not notice anv congratulations for Mr Holland and his mates. I suppose there are times when this "striking business" is a necessary evil, but it also suggests the sulky nature. —I am. etc.. J.R.E. ; Blenheim 13th Pel.
