C OURT grants probation Auckland, Oct. 13. j A postman, aged 21, Albert William Pearce (Mr Henry), appeared before! Mr J. Morling, S. M.. pleading guilty to the theft of 80 postal packets, of a total value of £BO 11s 7d. between June and August. Detective-Sergeant Aplin said ae- j cased had been employed by the Post and Telegraph Department for five years. The matter came to the' notice of the police when complaints were re- : ceived about missing letters and parcels from the delivery route served by accused. On being interviewed, he made a frank statement. Counsel said that, in spite of con- , tinuecl ill-health, accused had made very , good progress at school and afterward. ; and previously his character had been ; beyond reproach. He succumbed to temptation when he was being pressed : for money, but restitution would be j made if he was given the chance. Accused was admitted to probation for thre years and ordered to make for three years and ordered to make I for. He was also ordered to remain at ■ home during the period, and not to j leave without the probation officer’s ! consent.—P.A.
