ESPIONAGE IN CHILE
IMMEDIATE ACTION EXPECTED POSITION WORSE IN ARGENTINA (Rec. 10.30 a.m.) New York, Oct. 14. The Washington correspondent of the “Christian Science Monitor” says immediate action by the Chilean Government to uproot espionage which has already cost the United Nations many ships and men, is expected. Informed quarters here simultaneously stated authoritatively that the situation regarding Nazi activity was becoming worse in Argentina. There was positive and unimpeachable evidence that the Argentine Government recently took drastic steps to protect Nazis from counter-action by private citizens. This openly undemocratic 1 gesture is considered here as giving the Germans a greater measure of support than ever enjoyed in Argentina. Information shows that Mr Sumner Wells had abundant, justification when he made a charge in his Boston speech on 10th October that the United Nations were being stabbed in the back by Axis emissaries in Argentina and Chile. -
