A NELSON' CHRONOLOGY 14th October. 1842: It is essential to the well-governing of the Colony of New Zealand that the individual or body with whom lies the executive administration should be resident in each Settlement, and that the taxes raised in each Settlement should there b: expended. The legislative authority exercised by the Governor and Council or Representative Assembly at the seat of government should be confined to those matters which affect the whole colony. A legislative authority of some sort should exist in and have power to deal with the minor necessities of each particular settle- —" Nelson Examiner."
