TIMING OF EXPORTS AND IMPORTS FIGURES FOR SEVEN MONTHS j During July exports from New Zealand reached a record level for the month, showing an increase in value of 88.3 per cent, over last July. They were valued at £9.784.242, only £1,241.466 short of the record monthly total reached in June. However, this does not reflect a corresponding increase in production. As the “Abstract of Statistics” points out, the main factor regulating the time of export of our primary produce is availability of sea transport, not the actual time of production of the commodities. Exports of wool and frozen lamb were particularly heavy in July, though practically all items of primary produce contributed to the total. For the seven months of the present calendar value of merchandise exports to £5.490.605. compared wM LT07.988 for last year Imports for the same period were valued at £29,758.459, compared with £26,394.866 for the corresponding period of 1941. For the seven months New Zealand had a visible excess of exports of £23.242.757, as compared with £15,458,000 for 1941.
