TAKAKA

PATRIOTIC COMMUNITY SING Those who organised the community sing held at Takaka on Saturday afternoon had every reason to be pleased with the large attendance, resulting in the handing in of over £6 to Women’s National Reserve funds. Three schools entered in the school choir competition—Central Takaka, Puramahoi, and Takaka District High Sc’nooL Two verses of “Abide with me” were sung. All three choirs gave such a pleasing rendering that the judges must have had an unenviable task separating them. The rest of the programme consisted of community singing, led by Mr C. Strickland with Mrs Matthews at the piano. Each school gave four items. A competition for a dressed fowl was won by Miss Goodwin. MOTUPIPI CARDS AND DANCE A well-attended cards and dance evening was held in the Motupipi schoolroom when members of the Patriotic Committee were in charge. Winners in the card section were: Mrs Woodward 1, Mrs Raharuhi 2, Mr C. Robertson 1, L/Cpl. J. Beattie 2. A special competition was won by Mr T. King.

The winners of the Monte Carlo waltz were Miss M. Mason and Mr M. Harwood. Music was supplied by Mrs V. Page while Mr D. Bensemann carried out the duties of M.C.
