MAPUA BOWLING CLUB
ANNUAL MEETING At the annual meeting of the Mapua Bowling Club in the Mapua schoolroom there was a good attendance of members. The president, Mr H. Dormer, in his report on the year’s activities stated that despite the many restrictions he considered they had had a happy time and he wished to thank all members for their help and support He especially mentioned the efforts of the greenkeeper, Mr A. Neave, who had done good work under very adverse weather conditions; ftlr J. Clark for arranging the many games and competitions for patriotic purposes; and the secretary for his able work on behalf of the club. The secretary-treasurer, Mr J. A. Sladen, in giving the report and balance sheet, stated that while he could not show the credit in the bank equal to that of last year he considered the club to be in a good financial position, the slight falling off of revenue being due to loss of members on war activities. The election of officers resulted as under: President, Mr J. R. Clark; vicepresidents, Messrs M. Wells, Rev. R. Blair and T. J. Hogg; secretarytreasurer, Mi- J. A. Sladen (re-elected); greenkeeper. Mr A. Neave (re-elected); selector, Mr J. R. Clark (re-elected); committee. Messrs J. A .Stuchbery, C. Higgs, E. Jackson and J. Foley; auditor, Mr A. Austin; representative on Centre, Mr H. P. Forster (Nelson). After the election much discussion followed on the club’s future policies, among them being the encouraging of ladies and boys to join in the game at a fee of 10s 6d. The cups won during the season were presented as follows: Senior Cup, L. G. Wakefield; Junior Cup, T. J. Price; Pairs Cup, P. Coutts and J. A. Stuchbery; Intermediate, C. Higgs: Feathers, P. Coutts and E. Jackson; Richmond Ferns, C. Higgs, E. Jackson, L. G. Wakefield, J. R. Clark (s). An endeavour is being made to hold the opening on Saturday, 3rd October. The Rev. R. Blair and Mr T. J. Hogg (vice-presidents) offered to donate cups for the intermediate and pairs competitions. These were accepted, the donors being thanked for their generous gifts. A much appreciated supper terminated an enjoyable evening.
