NEW RAIL CAR SERVICE
BETWEEN WESTPORT AND GREYMOI'TH Wellington, This Day. "Arrangements have been concluded between the Railways Department and the Public Works Department for the inauguration of a rail car service between Westport and Grey mouth to operate on and after Monday 7th September,” said the Minister of Railways, Mr Semple, yesterday. “It is the intention to have two services each way daily and that all will have connections with the through services between Christchurch and Greymouth,” said Mr Semple, who added that a rail car would leave Greymouth daily at 7.25 a.m. (three-quarters of an hour after the arrival of the early rail car from Christchurch) and would be due to arrive at Westport at 11.5 a.m. In the afternoon a rail car would leave Greymouth at 3.25 p.rr... connect at Stillwater Junction with the 10 a.m. Christchurch-Greymouth express and be due to arrive at Westport at 7.18 p.m. In the reverse direction a rail car would leave Westport at 7.21 a.m. connect at Stillwater Junction with the 10.18 a.m. Greymouth-Cliristchurch express and be due to arrive Greymouth at 10.57 a.m. The second car from Westport would leave at 2.50 p.m.. connect at Stillwater Junction with the 5.42 p.m. Greymouth-Christchurch railear and be due to arrive at Greymouth at 6.29 p.m. The rail cars to be used were the Vulcan type recently imported from England, each car seating 52 passenAs a result of the action taken, a large saving would be effected in both petrol and commercial tyres.—P.A.
