DISORDER IN YUGOSLAVIA
POLICE AND PEASANTS CLASH ATTEMPT TO REQUISITION FOOD (Rec. 10.15 a.m > Rugby, Aug. 31. Disorder has broken out in Zagreb and neighbouring villages following a large-scale drive by Ustashas (proNazis) police to requisition foodstuffs, according to reports reaching the Yugoslav Government in London. Armed encounters took place in some villages between special police and peasants, in which some police were killed. Some were taken prisoner and sentenced to death by peasant tribunals. —8.0. W. DUTCHMEN SENTENCED TO DEATH (Rec. 12.20 p.m.> London, Aug. 31. Berlin radio says 11 Dutchmen were sentenced at The Hague—three to death and the others to long terms of imprisonment for stealing a large number of food cards from the issuing office at Beverwijk and selling them for large sums. LIEGE DISTRICT FINED The independent Belgian news agency says the Germans fined the Liege district one million francs after two members of the Rexis military body were killed and a third wounded. Five were arrested for deportation to Germany unless the perpetrators of the attack are discovered. P.A.
