WEATHER IN AUGUST
\\ AVERAGE MONTH During August there- was average sunshine and rainfall for the month. Rain fell on eleven days and there was a total of 2.24 inches. In August last year 4.51 inches of rain fell. , The sunshine total of 179 hours 29 minutes for August this year compares favourably with that of the same month last year, when there were 150 hours 2 1 minutes’. The daily average for this August was 5 hours 47 minutes and lor August last year 4 hours 51 minutes The month started with a succession of clear days and frosty nights. On Ist August the heaviest frost of the i winter, one of 11.8 degrees, was re' j corded. Towards the end of this month the i weather became colder and there were i some heavy falls of snow on tiie moun- ! tains and even light falls on the foot- [ hills. Strong south-easterly gales were j experienced at. the same time through out the district. i
