WAGES AND COSTS

STABILISATION SCHEME Wellington, Aug. 27. “The Government is working on a plan to stabilise all wages and costs, and that, I think, will be a big factor in all our future negotiations,” said the Minister of Marketing, Mr J. G. Barclay, addressing the electoral committee of the Meat Producers’ Board today. “The more stable we can keep our internal economy at present, the better will be our position at the end of the war. If we allowed prices to soar and then flop back, we would not add to our strength. The only men who would benefit would be speculators and those in between the producer and the con-sumer.”-—P.A.
