GRANTED TO BRAZIL ITALIANS AND GERMANS ARRESTED Rio de Janeiro, Aug. 27. Over a thousand Germans and Italians have been arrested in four days in Rio de Janeiro and nearby States. An additional thousand have been taken into custody in outlying States. Venezuela and Colombia have granted non-belligerent status to Brazil. All nine South American countries have now granted non-belligerency recognition to Brazil. The Uruguyuan Government announced that Brazil and Uruguay would co-operate in common defence against possible aggression. The Uruguayan National Defence Ministry has been authorised to adopt in agreement with the Brazilian military authorities all measures designed to improve the efficiency of the common defence.
