MAITAI RINKS AT CHRISTCHURCH
FINAL MATCHES (By Telegraph—Special to “The Mail”) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Members of the Alaitai Bowling Club who have been visiting Cliri.stcliurch left for home at 9 o’clock to-day. Yesterday afternoon they were the guests of the Riccarton Racecourse Club, when the president of the Canterbury Bowling Centre, Mr L. Evans, said goodbye to them on behalf of the bowlers of Canterbury. Mr Evans said he was very pleased (lie visitors had enjoved themselves and local clubs also had enjoyed their games with tlie visitors. He thanked the team for coming down and presented each member with a badge of the Canterbury centre. On behalf of Nelson Air F. J. Board thanked Mr Evans for his message of farewell. From a holiday point of view (lie trip had been an unbounded success and the team appreciated the kindness and hospitality that had been extended to them. In particular lie wanted to thank Air Wade for all he had done to make the visit a success, and took pleasure in. presenting him with a clock m appreciation of his efforts. One of the objects of the visit had been to cement the relationship between the two centres and in that they had been successful.
Air E. W. Wade, secretary of the Canterbury Bowling Centre said he had been pleased to do anything he could to make the visitors’ stay pleasant. He was glad they enjoyed themselves and thanked them for the clock. In the morning the Nelson team played at the Beckenham Club’s green, but as time was limited tlie games were not finished. Prior to a match at Riccarton in the afternoon they were shown over the racecourse by Alcssrs P. McNab and Daniel. Great interest was shown in (he various buildings and stands, and in (he totalisator mechanism which was fully explained. The results of the game with Riccartonwere: Herbert, Lockwood, Wimsett, Simpson 25, 16; Slinn, Boyes, Campbell, St all ard 18, 21; Board, Ilingston, Chapman, Brundoll 19, 18. Totals, Riccarton 62. Alaitai 55.
WAKEFIELD FEATHERS The Wakefield Feathers competition is attracting a fair amount of attention from the various clubs. The holders, Gay, lveecli, Stringer and lunnicline (s) have been called upon to defend them no less than three times in the last 10 days. The last game was played on Monday evening last when the challengers were P. Gibbs, Logan, Stevens and I. Forster (s). The result was, holders 12, challengers 10. This evening a rink from Al<?tueka, skipped by C. Thorpe, will play. There arc three other challenges awaiting their turn, two from Alaitai, and another from Alotuokii. On Saturday afternoon two rinks from the Mapua Club will play two junior rinks (Alaitai) on the latter’s green. The following players will represent Alaitai, X. Watson, W. Vaughan, W. Watson, E. Snow (s). Freeth. Kelleway, Wright, Kcech (s). The balance of members will play anotliei round of the Saturday Fours.
