SALE OF THOROUGHBREDS

SATISFACTORY PRICES OBTAINED (By Telegraph—Press Association) WELLINGTON, This Day. Very satisfactory prices were realised at the annual national sales of thoroughbred yearlings. The general impression prior to the sale was that the four figure prices of the last few years would not he touched, but that there would he good buyers for picked lots. Competition was good practically throughout the sale and 148 lots were sold under the hammer, representing a record percentage of sales. Mr G. M. Currie, of the Koatanui stud, secured the top average at the sales, ten lots averaging 254 guineas. The Westmere draft of Mr John Donald produced the largest return of 3035 guineas at an average for 17 of 178 guineas. Twenty-eight yearlings bred and reared at Ellerslie averaged 170 guineas. The top price for Ellerslie was 400 guineas for a half brother hv Tea Tray to Mystic Peak, who has been a good winner this season in Melbourne. Chief Ruler’s top price was 500 guineas for the first foal from Comedy Queen. Messrs J. W. and L, W. Storry, of Christchurch, realised 500 guineas for a fine colt by Weathervane from Stardancer. This is the first yearling they have put into the sale ring. He is a half-brother to Limelight. Night Raid’s progeny was in paddock condition, and although they did not look so attractive to tlie eye as other lots they were hid up to fair values by keen judges. Night Raid’s best price was 250 guineas for a half-brother to Economist.

Lots numbering 148 averaged 128J,guineas for a total of 19,025 guineas. An interesting buyer at the sale ring was a citizen of Valparaiso, Chili, Senor Meyer Braun. He secured half a dozen lots, tiie majority at moderate prices.
