SPECIAL ROYAL FLAG
— GOVERNOR-GENERAL OF SOUTH AFRICA (United Press Association— By Electrio Telegraph—Copyright) LONDON, 19th January. It is announced that in order to mark the position of the Governor-General of South Africa as the King's personal representative, His Majesty has been graciously pleased to approve of the Gov-ernor-General's flying a special symbolic flag consisting of a blue ground on which is the Royal crest in gold, with the words “Union of South Africa” abovo the crest, and “Unie van .Suid Afrika” below. The flag will be first used on the Earl of Clarendon s assumption of office. (Received 21st January, 9.15 a.m.) LONDON, 20th January. It is understood, assuming all the dominions are agreeable, that the Gover-nors-General in all parts of the Empire will shortly fly a personal flag similar to the Earl of Clarendon’s. The design will he the same in all cases, but the lettering will be altered. It is stated that no special significance attaches to the decision which has been under consideration for a long period, with the object of evolving a symbol of personal representation of tbe King.
