GOLD MOVEMENT

THE FRENCH VIEW INTERNATIONAL CO-OPERATION Press Association— By Eleotrlo Telegraph—Copyright! PARJS, 18th January. The “Times” correspondent says M. Germain Martin, Minister of Finance states in regard to conversations between British and French treasury officials, that lie and his colleagues desired to show a generous spirit of international co-operation. If gold movements could be shown to be abnormal, and due to financial conditions, the French authorities would always be ready to apply appropriate remedies. French economic opinion does not accept the foreign view that the bad distribution of gold is largely responsible for the world economic crisis. On the contrary, it considers the flow of gold to Paris a consequence, not a cause of the world depression. While French financiers deny the possibility of redistributing gold artificially since gold follows credit, they acknowledge the desirability of better distribution of credit and suggest that countries losing gold should concentrate thereon.
