OBITUARY
A LADY COMMONER (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) LONDON, 19th January. The death has occurred of Doctor Ethel Bentham, Labour member of tho House of Commons for Islington East. MR JOSEPH HENRY HALL (By Telegraph—Special to "The Mail”) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. The death occurred yesterday at his residence at Herley, Papanui road, of Mr Joseph Henry Hall, formerly a wellknown North Canterbury pastoralist, in his 72nd year. Born at Baliin Derry, County Down, Ireland, Mr Hall was educated at Cook’s School, Christchurch, and afterwards at Christ’s College. As a young man he was engaged as a shipping clerk at Lyttelton. He afterwards took an interest in pastoral affairs and acquired the sheep run known as Moutnau, which he held until 1906. He afterwards spent some time in travelling and visited several parts of the world, ultimately making his home at Christchurch. Mr Hall was a man of considerable culture, and was an authority on Maori lore and tho early history of New Zealand. He leaves a widow, who is a sister of Mr 11. R. Sellers, secretary of the New Zealand Racing Conference.
