RAW MATERIALS PRICES (United Press Association—By Electrlo Telegraph—Copyright) LONDON, 17th January. Friday’s closing prices for the following raw materials were as follow, those for 10th January being given in parentheses : Cotton. —Liverpool quotation, American miijdling, upland, February delivery 5.28 d per lb (5.24 d). Rubber. —-P*ia, sfjd per lb (52<J); plantation smoked, 4 3-16 d per lb (4^l^)Jute. January-February shipment, £ls 2s 6d per toil (£ls). Hemp.—Brices nominal and unchanged (£23 per ton). Copra.—South Sea, February shipment. £l4 7s 6d per ton (same); plantation Rabaul, £l4 12s 6d per ton (£l4 10s). Linseed Oil.—£lß per ton (£2O). Turpentine.—3ss 9d per cwt (35s 3d). Osmiridium.—Unchanged (Tasmanian £ls per o'/., South African £l2). TALLOW AND HEMP The Department of Agriculture lias received the following cablegram, dated 17th instant, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London:— Tallow. —-Quiet demand at auction. 406 casks offered and 168 sold. Not much interest shown except for mixed fair to good. Present quotations for spot are: ■ —Mutton, fine 28s, fair to good 25s to 265, dark to dull 22s to 235. Beef, sweet and/or mixed 25s to 295, fair to good 23s to 24s 6d, dark to dull 21s 6d to 225. fair to good 23s to 24s 6d, dark to dull 21s to 225, gut, etc., 20s to 225.
Hemp.—Manila market weaker under continued selling. “K” grade Jan./March and Feb./April shipments sold al> £l9 10s. Sisal: Market quiet and easier, closing value No. 1 fair average quality alloat £l6 ss, second grade £ls 10s, January/March shipments 5s more. New Zealand nominal value Jan./March shipment high fair £22. fair £2l, common £l9 10s. Consumers not interested in view of low prices for other fibre. No first hand sales reported.
