MINISTER’S STATEMENT CON TRADICTED

PARIS, 17th January. A sensation which is expected to lead to a crisis ai'ose in the Chamber when M. Boret, Minister of Agriculture, announced the decision to increase the tariff on imported wheat, sending up the price from 14s to 14s 7d a hundredweight, M. Meyer, Under-Seci-etaiy for Commerce, contradicted M. Boret’s announcement, which he said had not received Cabinet’s approval, as it is feared it would lead to wild wheat speculation.
