SURCHARGE INCREASED

FREIGHT AND FARES TO LONDON

(By Telegraph—Press Association) WELLINGTON, This Day. In consequence of the latest increase in exchange rates New Zealand on London, as announced by the banks, the surcharge on freight prepaid in New Zealand on general cargo has been increased from 5 to 7j per cent, and a similar increase will be made on passage moneys ..paid in New Zealand. The surcharge does not apply to freight on refrigerated cargo, rates for which are fixed by existing contracts. The surcharge of per cent, ' operates immediately and is made subject to fluctuations in the rate of exchange.
