Market is overloaded with meat of all descriptions generally. Mutton Market.—Wethers : Market disorganised through low prices of South American lamb filling mutton trade. Ewes: Market is quiet and unchanged. Trade slow. Beef Market.—Small interest in frozen beef. Market is well supplied with chilled beef and Home killed beef. New Zealand Porker Pigs.—Market irregular. Prices have weakened owing to heavy arrivals of Irish selling down to 8/d. Australia is also shipping considerable quantities. New Zealand Baconer Pigs.—No demand foi*, owing to heavy arrivals Continental bacon selling 6d to 7d. Messrs Levin and Co.. Exchange Premium.—The increase o-f 6 per cent, on demand drafts means a total profit on account of exchange at present market rates of approximately gd for cheese and 2-3rds of a penny for butter.

Dalgcty and Company Limited, Wellington, 'report under dale 16th Janu'l Our first sale of sheepskins, hides, tallow and sundries for the. 1931 season was held this afternoon at the Dominion Farmers’ Institute. We submitted a good catalogue of all grades and descriptions to a representative attendance of buyers. Sheepskins. —There was a fair enquiry for all grades at prices Id to j|d lower than our quotations of the 19th December. Seedy, inferior and damaged parcels were 'at times Id lower. Salted skins were dull of sale and only a few lots were disposed of. Prices showing a corresponding decline to drys, Hides.—Some very nice lines of abattoir hides were brought forward and considering the slate of the. overseas market sold particularly well. The tanners held the market for the well conditioned lines. We quote heavies,, mediums and lightweights fid to 3d lower, at times Ad being recorded. Kip and yearling were in demand at prices sjd lower, while calf declined sd. Cut. slippy and inferior hides sold at very low rates and m some cases did not elicit a bid. Tallow.—Good consignments of casks, drums, and tins were submitted and prices in sympathy with the. London market showed a decline of 2s 6d per cwt. UNITED STATES TRADE

FALL IN EXPORTS AND IMPORTS WASHINGTON, 17th January. United States exports for 1930 totalled 3,841.207,000 dollars, a decrease of 1,399.788,000 compared with 1929. Imports were 3,061.369,000 dollars, a decrease of 1.337,992.000. Exports were the lowest since 1922 and imports the lowest since 1921.

AUCKLAND WOOL SALES

DROP IN PRICES (By Tel ograph—Press Association) AUCKLAND, 17th January. Tho - second Auckland wool sale opened this morning, 17.282 hales being catalogued, hut many being withdrawn before the sale.. Passings were numerous during the sale. Pijices were a farthing to a halfpenny down on Napier levels and three farthings lower than the Auckland November rates. Lots sold were those suitable to Continental and Bradford requirements. Bidding was keen.
