WAR LOAN REPAID
BRITISH TREASURY OPERATION (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) LONDON, 15th January. Tlie Treasury to-day repaid £75,000,000 4 per cent, war loan, income tax compounded, though there was no compulsion to repay before 1942. The action was apparently due to the increase of income tax to 4s 6d. Financial - circles believe that Mr Snowden’s decision to redeem indicates that he does not expect an early reduction in income tax. i This £75,000,000 is replaced by. Treasury' ( bonds. It is estimated that the tesult will he a saving of £700,000 a year.
