In the cricket match West Indies required only 45 minutes to finish Queensland to-day, the innings closing for 188. The Mossop-Goodwin partnership was worth 88 to the side, but the others made little resistance. Thurlow hit a grand six off Scott and Gilbert shaped well. The West Indies were always brilliant in the field, particularly Constantine. There was a small attendance. The Otago Plunket Shield team to play Canterbury, is as follows: Badcock, Blunt, Cherry, Cavanagh, Coupland, Dunning (captain), Dickinson, Hawksworth, Moloney, Priest, Shepherd, and Zimmerman (North Otago). Alloo, Galland, Elmes, and Lemin have been dropped from the team which played Auckland, in favour of Dunning, Shepherd, Coupland and Priest, making a much stronger side. CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. “The selectors for the New Zealand
cricket team to tour'England will meet * at Auckland at the Plunket Shield. ... match between Wellington and Auckland,” said Mr A. T. Donnelly, at a v meeting of the management committee of the New Zealand Cricket Council. “The team will be selected as soon as the match is finished.” Mr E. Heathcote Williams wrote suggesting that the competition for the Heathcote Williams Shield be confined - - to Canterbury secondary schools, reserving the right of any school outside Canterbury to challenge tlie holders. Consideration was deferred until later in the year.
