A FLYING VISIT

BY AUSTRALIAN SPRINT CHAMPION TO MEET SIMPSON (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copy right)

SYDNEY, 14th January. _ Jim Carlton, champion sprinter, is desirous of accepting the New Zealand invitation to visit the Dominion, and possibly have a match with Simpson, the American, but it will only be a living visit, as he must be back here for t! e track championships on 28tli February and 7th March. Carlton has applied for leave of absence to go to the Dominion. SCANT APPROVAL WELLINGTON CENTRE’S RECOMMENDATION THROWN OUT (By Telegraph—Press Association) WELLINGTON, This Day. The New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association threw out the recommendation of the Wellington centre that the visiting American athletes be excluded from participating in the next New Zealand championships to be held at Dunedin. It was pointed out by members that the participation of the Americans did not affect the holding of titles in any way and that it would have a good effect on the performance of New Zealand athletes. The suggestion made by Wellington met with scant approval, and a motion that no action be taken was carried without a dissentient. Carlton will be seen, in action against Simpson at Athletic Park on 21st February, when they appear in a scratch invitation race. The council of the N.Z.A.A. has decided that Carlton be invited to compete in as many races in the chief centres as might be available.
