THE BRIGHT SIDE

LONDON BUSINESS FIRMS BRISKNESS IN MANY TRADES (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) LONDON, 13th January. The “Evening Standard” in an article sets out the bright side of British business. It declares that many trades aro more than keeping up despite the world depression, including insurance, building societies, banks and estate purchase, these chiefly because the stock exchange investment is at present below normal. Olliers doing well include big stores, because level-headed householders realise that commodities are now at the cheapest, and electrical supply equipment undertakings, commercial motor vehicle builders, wireless apparatus makers, breweries and the building trade. Every part of London is studded with large scale reconstruction works, particularly in connection with business headquarters, evidencing faith in the future, Dorman Longs were never busier in bridge building and had £10,000,000 worth of contracts throughout the world. The paper expressed the opinion that a time like the present is not altogether disadvantageous nationally, as it has given the opportunity to concentrate in putting houses in order, modernising plant and business organisations.
