MEMBERS OF STEAMER JUNE’S CREW CHARGED

Thirteen members of the crew of the steamer June appeared in Lyttelton Court to-day, charged with deserting the ship at Lyttelton on. 31st December, and they pleaded not guilty. Captain Thor Ilannevig was cross-ex-amined at length as to the food given to the men on the voyage to Nauru Island, lie said it was regulation food, and whenever he could he purchased fresh supplies. The defence was that the ship was undermanned and they had been ill-treated. The men counter-claimed for back pay and fares to (heir ports. (Proceeding.)
