WAIMEA COUNTY FINANCE

.To the Editor) Sir.-—ln.your report of the last Waimea County! Council meeting I notice that it was stated that the cost of administration worked out at 3.05. In looking up the 1929-30 balance sheet i find: Salaries £1637, chairman’s expenses £IOO, members’ £2OO, printing and stationery. £157, postages and advertising £4S, telephone and office appliances £52, motor account £405. These items total £2649. Against that I find that the total receipts for the year amount to £19,395. Therefore if one took into accoUiit depreciation on motor cars, office rents, superannuation fund, insurances, etc., one could safely say that the cost of administration would work out at about 4s in the pound or 20 per cent, of receipts. In conclusion may I compliment Councillors Higgins and Gibbs on their effort for economy.—l am, etc., JAMES ANGLESEY. Tadmor, 14th January.
