TAHUNA BEACH

CARNIVAL, ANNIVERSARY DAY

At a meeting of the Organising Committee of the Tahuna Sands Association held last evening it was decided to hold a beach carnival and gala on. the Sands on Anniversary Day—Monday, 2nd February, to provide funds for improving the facilities for enjoying the beach. The following members of the organising committee were present: Messrs M. O’Sullivan, D. Barry, W. Liddle. Alf. Robinson and J. H. Moore. Apologies were received for the unavoidable absence of Messrs G. P. Russell and P. E. Jones. Mr O’Sullivan was appointed chairman and Mr J. H. Moore organiser. To enable a display of swirnming and other events being staged on the beach, it was decided to co-operate with the Tahuna Life-saving and Surf Club in securing a Wellington team of swimmers and to invite Miss Mercedes Gleitze or Miss Lily Copplestone to give an exhibition of long-distance swimming. It is hoped to secure .the assistance of the 12th Regiment Band and the Scottish Society in providing additional attractions. The City Council is to be asked to give permission for the holding of the gala and to the usual charge for admittance. The carnival is to continue in tire evening, when the beach will be illuminated by electric light. There will be the usual attractions for the children, including races and a treasure hunt, while for the sporting adults there will be a variety of sideshows. Messrs E. B. Martin and H. C. Sanders were appointed to the organising committee, but owing to the removal from Nelson of several members, notably Messrs J. Caradus and C. Henderson, the committee would appreciate the services of anyone willing to help on the day of the gala. The work of the association commends itself to everyone with the welfare of Nelson at heart, and there should be a good attendance of the public at the carnival.
