DRAMATIC SCENES

WOMAN EXECUTED AT VIENNA A REMARKABLE CONFESSION (United Pres* Asspciatip.p—By Electrio Telegraph—Copyright) (Received 14th January, 12.55 p.m.) VIENNA, 13th January.. v -’ There was a dramatic scene yester- ; - day at the public execution of the woman, Kardos, who got rid of her hus-.ri-bands by poisoning. The prison was beseiged by a mob from dawn. Ladders were erected against the prison walls, and men and women fought for positions. Windows and roofs of surrounding houses were black with onlookers. The condemned woman spent the final night making her will. When she was reawakened at Gin the morning, Stephen ' Todor, a young lover for whom she killed her husband, and her son, was allowed to enter the cell. Warders had to carry Kardos to, the scaffold., When the platform fell, Todor, who remained to the end, ran screaming through the courtyard into the street. Kardos made a remarkable confession. “I killed my son Sandor. After I had given him poison I remembered • what a remarkable voice hp had, and I asked him to sing my favourite song. He sang it beautifully until he suddenly broke off, gripped both hands to his side and uttered a despairing cry ‘Mother,’ and lay still. I laid him on a bed, put on a mourning dress and went out.”
