SHIPBUILDING RETURNS

FIGURES FOR LAST QUARTER (United Press Association—By Electrio Telegraph—Copyright) (Received 14th January, 9.45 a.m.) LONDON, 13th January. Lloyd’s shipbuilding returns show that world construction during the quarter ending 31st December, excluding Russian (of which no returns were received) totalled 2,326,986 tons. Of this total 39.1 per cent, is building in Britain and 60.9 per cent, abroad. One hundred and eighty-one vessels, representing 908,802 tons,‘are being constructed in Britain, which is 207, 844 and 651,352 tons less than at the end of the quarter 30th September 1930 and 31st December, 1929 respectively. Of 1>4W,184 tons being constructed abroad 235,030 is in the United States, 218,215 in Germany, 179,677. in Italy, 174,215 in France and 16b,078 in Holland. Tho world tonnage of motor ships is 1,332,709. Seven vessels arc building in Britain for the Dominions.
