UNEMPLOYMENT IN FRANCE
OFFICIAL FIGURES CHALLENGED COST OF LIVING SOARING (United Press Association —By Eleotrio Telegraph—Copyright) LONDON, 13th January. “The time has come to tell the truth ip regard to unemployment in France,” says Mr Greenwall, the “Daily Express” Paris correspondent. The official statement is that there are twelve thousand unemployed, lmt there are really a quarter of a million and another quarter of a million short-timers. France lias held back the figures as long as possible because the dole is unknown and unemployed relief is a matter for district councils. The correspondent hints that France may he the first country since the war to issue gold currency. Influential people are urging this to relieve the gold congestion, despite which she is practising inflation on an extensive scale. The note issue has reached staggering proportions, with the result that the cost of living is rising and unemployment soaring.
