FARMERS HARD HIT
UNABLE TO PAY DRAINAGE RATE (By Telegraph—Press Association) DUNEDIN, 13th January. At a meeting of the Taieri River Trust it was stated, in reply to a letter from ihe Minister of Public Works, regarding the repayment of a loan of £76.000 that with the returns for primary produce reduced by half the Taieri fanners couid not pay the heavy drainage rate assessed, and that the trust could not carry on ■lt was resolved to send a deputation to the Minister to explain the position.
