FROZEN LAMB
VARIABILITY OF CARCASES EXPERIMENTAL WORK IN NEW ZEALAND (By Telegraph—Press Association) WELLINGTON, This Day. Special research upon carcases of lamb for export will be carried out by the Canterbury Agricultural College, the New Zealand Refrigerating Company and the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research as a result of the Prime Minister’s visit of inspection to Sniithfiekl market during his stay in London. Mr Forbes was impressed with the variability of New Zealand lamb carcases, and research will be carried out with a view to eliminating this feature. The experiment will be with lines of crossbred lambs of known breeding. These will be slaughtered under carefully noted conditions, and the carcases will be dispatched to Smithfield, where they will be valued by butchers and inspected by experts of the Food Investigation Board. The object of the experiment is to gain some idea of the breeding of those animals likely to prove most satisfactory to the Smithfield market, and be capable of being transported with the least loss of quality.
